I did say a while ago that in the possibility of future mega acquisitions happening and other companies stepping into Sony's turf of making more cinematic 3P action-adventure story-driven games of comparable quality, Sony'd need to rely on their strengths of vertical integration with other entertainment fields to bolster their gaming IP. And while Sony doesn't own any anime production studios, they could lean into utilizing Crunchyroll to partner with one to do something for the IP as well, if that's what they wanted to do. They do have a lot of CG work for various films, shows and adverts, and if they were ever interested in doing a CG animated series spun off from the games (or a CG film), they have the Sony Pictures and Sony Television branches there to work with. While, again, I'm not in here to cheer on or hope/wish for an acquisition in this instance (or any rumored instance), I can see this as a good reasoning as to why a Sony acquisition of Ember Labs would make more sense logistically than by a different suitor. IIRC the game is still slated to come to other platforms sometime next early next year, I would be surprised if this spot in a short advert was indicative of any purchase because that'd also likely mean Sony cutting out said other platforms for getting a game it'd otherwise receive, and that would upset a decent bit of folks considering such a pre-existing deal is honored in other instances (i.e Psychonauts 2, Deathloop etc.). Apparently Sony want to improve relations with indie devs, so if they only have enough to slot two games and Miles may've been redundant due to No Way Home, pick Kena and kill two birds with one stone. So I figure they'd want to showcase gaming exclusives that would fit the bill, and of those their best choices are Rachet, Kena and Miles Morales. That said, I highly doubt it's a sign of any acquisition that clip was focused on Sony as a whole and with a lot of filmic/cinematic properties. It's very hard to see if Ember Lab is a public or private company, but if they're public, and this is some way to tease an acquisition, then we'd of seen something reflected in their stock prices prior to this.In first competition after four years, Anjali wins 400m gold in stunning race.CM Eknath Shinde to crowd in Pune: a ‘small’ ad won’t hit BJP-Sena ties.Kiara Advani joins Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in Ayan Mukerji’s actioner War 2.Nitish Kumar fills in Manjhi-sized gap in Cabinet, brings in Mushahar leader Ratnesh Sada.Najam Sethi casts fresh doubts over Pakistan’s participation in World Cup in India. What a long, strange few years it was for weddings.Nusrat Chowdhury confirmed as the first Muslim female federal judge in US history.Despite WTC final loss, India is set to persist with tried and tested batsmen for the West Indies series.Joe Root’s ton salvages England on first day of Bazball Ashes.Kutch heaves a sigh of relief: Power infra paralysed, but Biparjoy spares houses, other structures. Kena joins Deathloop, a more traditional big-budget console exclusive made by the Microsoft Corp.-owned Bethesda Softworks, to lead this fall’s PlayStation lineup. But games like God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West can take more than four years to make, and have faced additional delays due to the pandemic, forcing Sony to rely on external developers such as Ember Lab to help fill the gaps. The PlayStation 5 is selling out faster than it can be made, in part because of Sony’s strategy to churn out exclusive blockbusters through its several internal studios such as Sony Santa Monica and Guerrilla Games. The game, which is only available on computers and PlayStation consoles, was unveiled at Sony’s big PlayStation 5 event last year and has taken center stage at other events from the Japanese console manufacturer, receiving the type of marketing support that’s usually reserved for larger releases.
